Sixth Form Admissions

Thomas Paine Sixth Form

The admission round for entry in September 2022 is now open. The closing date for applications is the 1st September 2022.

Entry Requirements:

To study with us, you should normally have at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including a grade 5 in both English and Mathematics, and grade 6 in the subjects closest to the courses you have chosen to study.

For students with lower grades but at least a grade 3 in English and Mathematics we offer a special one-year ‘Access to Sixth Form’ course to build up your skills ahead of tackling our main courses.

If you’re not sure about which courses are best for you, please get in touch to discuss your options.

If any subject is oversubscribed we will give priority to:

  • Students who attend The Thetford Academy
  • The applicants best qualified for the courses they intend to study
  • Those applicants who put The Thetford Academy as their first choice centre
  • Applications that reach us by the designated deadline

Successful applicants will be invited for an interview to discuss course options and future career paths. These interviews will be carried out by the Director of sixth form and senior tutors.

If you are successful you will receive a conditional offer, subject to the GCSE grades you achieve in the summer.

You and your child have the right to appeal if your child has been refused a place at The Thomas Paine Sixth Form.

If your child was refused admission because they didn’t meet the entry requirements as specified above, the panel will only uphold the appeal if it considers that the decision was unreasonable based on the information available. For example, if there are specific reasons or special circumstances that meant your child was not able to get the required GCSEs at the relevant grades.

Please complete and return an attached appeal form with the reasons for the appeal. Once the form is received an appeal hearing will be held within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals, or within 30 school days for an in-year admission application.
